Education for all Fundraiser!

Loreto High School, and in particular the Student Council, are delighted to report that their fundraising appeal, for their sister school in South Sudan, has got off to a flying start. Thanks to the support of local businesses in combination with the generosity of the local community, who attended the’ Auction of Prizes and Promises’ event, the grand total currently stands at the impressive sum of £3,500.
All monies raised will go to improving the life chances of the girls in South Sudan who face extreme adversity in the pursuit of academic success. Even a basic education is a right denied to many.
At the event, which took place on Wednesday 7th March, the Loreto girls choir showcased a piece that they had written from the Manchester Camarata for International Women’s Day and the Student Council showed a film about their views on the challenges and opportunities for young women in Manchester. As well as the live auction there was a silent auction, a raffle, bespoke badges, a cake sale and student art work on sale. Guests also enjoyed a delicious pie and pea supper from the Manchester Tart Company, who also donated their time and usual profits to the fundraiser.
The Auction itself saw some determined bidding! Many items going for a much higher price than originally anticipated. Some of these included the lunch for 2 at TeaHive, delicious celebrations cakes, the historical pub crawl and a holiday cottage in Ireland. We were pleased to welcome to the event the Loreto Sisters, Father McMahon, staff, parents, Primary school staff and Friends of Loreto. Thank you all once again for your support for this very worthwhile cause. The fundraising we will continue all year long until our grand target is reached, so please keep an eye on the website for future events!
