From 15th-19th October, 13 musicians from Year 9 and 10 took part in a fantastic creative project with The Grange School in Levenshulme to compose and perform music inspired by Bee in the City, the recent art installation in Manchester.
The students worked for a whole week with students from The Grange and professional musicians from charity Create Arts, developing and refining their musical ideas, writing lyrics and collaborating in what proved to be an inspiring and uplifting experience for all involved. On the Friday, the students from Loreto, The Grange and also New Park and Chatsworth schools, who were also collaborating, came together for a massed concert at the Royal Northern College of Music, watched by about 100 people.
Loreto students played a range of instruments, from piano and guitar to steel pans, clarinet to xylophone and even included rapping and drum machines. The finished pieces were a triumph and we would like to thanks Create Arts for the opportunity provided to us to be part of such an uplifting, team-building and confidence-boosting experience. Well done to all.
