Year 9 Pupils in the Enterprise North Final!

5 students from year 9 Karesse Kini, Esther Oladapo, Jace Rennie, Witold Horobiowski and Louis Breen represented Manchester United in the PL Enterprise North Final at Huddersfield Town FC- John Smith Stadium. Competing against Blackburn Rovers, Wigan Athletic, Newcastle United, Middlesbrough and Sunderland for a place in the National Final in London. The challenge was to look at ways for the club to connect with new and existing fans aged 18-23 and to encourage them to buy tickets for a match day. Following on from their market research they decided to develop an app that would target the 300,000+ students in Manchester. The app (NUS) would not only have the benefit of reduced cost of match tickets to MUFC but also the additional benefits of discount to food and retail both online and in-store, GMPT discount and live webinars with professionals at Manchester United who could provide students with insight as to how they came to work for United. There would also be internships and postgraduate opportunities exclusive to members. They pitched their idea to four judges from a variety of backgrounds including recruitment, accounting and marketing. The judges scrutiniser their executive summary and finance projections with a fine tooth comb and put the students on the spot, asking questions about membership. The students thought on their feet and responded well. After hearing all the pitches the judges went away to deliberate. Unfortunately, we narrowly missed out to Newcastle United, with the judges commenting on close we had come. Praising the group on the detail of their research, the quality of their pitch and how they had already started developing the app to show the judges on the day. Despite not winning, there were a couple of stand out moments (other than their presentation). Witold has been quiet throughout the program and really came into his own presenting today and responded confidently and competently when the group was put on the spot by the judges. The other was when Newcastle had been presented with the trophy, Esther (without any prompts from staff) was the first over to congratulate them and wish them well in London and was then followed by the rest of our students. Thanks to everyone for all their support during the program
