On Friday 3rd November, Manchester City Council in partnership with Manchester Youth Council and sponsors held the first ever Youth Buzz Award Ceremony to celebrate the positive contributions that young people are making to the city. Staff and students from Loreto High school attended the prestigious ceremony, after they were short-listed for the work undertaken by their innovative student council.
As the nominations were read out, it became clear that Loreto had a high chance of receiving an award but nothing could have prepared the students for the moment when their school name was read out and they were announced winners of the Most Effective School or College Student Council for 2017.
Loreto Student Council Leader, Nicola Knowles, declared, “the nominations were all notably worthy and the city should be proud of all the talented youngsters who are working hard to make a difference to the citizens of Manchester. I am so proud to work with the enthusiastic and ambitious student council team at Loreto and I am delighted that their hard work has been recognised in such a public way. I know winning this award will further inspire the team to be more creative and more daring in their work to make Manchester a better place for everyone!”
