Twelve Year 8 and 9 students from Loreto High School participated in an amazing musical collaborative project with The Grange School in Levenshulme for a week in July. The students all played their musical instruments in joint ensembles with The Grange pupils, facilitated by expert musicians from Create Arts, a London-based charity, and funded by intu Trafford Centre.
The students rehearsed at The Grange every day and their week culminated in a fantastic performance on Friday 12th July on the main stage in The Orient at The Trafford Centre to a crowd of over 1000 people! It was awe-inspiring and the highlight was a song that was entirely composed by the students in honour of those who were affected by the tragic Arena bombing in May, called ‘One Love Manchester’. The students improvised, harmonised, sang and riffed their way to perfection, and all of them grew in confidence and pride throughout the week, as well as loving every minute of collaborating with other young people. Massive thanks go to Create Arts, The Grange, intu Trafford Centre and our very own Mr Burford for facilitating such a wonderful week. We’ll leave you with some lyrics from their song:
EVEN THOUGH THE SKIES ARE GREY
MUSIC LIFTS THE CLOUDS AWAY
WE’RE SINGING ALL TOGETHER
ONE LOVE MANCHESTER
Don’t forget to follow Mr Burford as he takes his Sabbatical year doing music projects in Uganda!
