Loreto Reading Bench

Inspired by the Carnegie books they have read, a group of avid year 10 readers are designing and painting a ‘BookBench’ sculpture as part of the ‘Read Manchester BookBench Project.’ Manchester City Council and the National literacy trust have joined forces with Wild in Art to bring the iconic Book Bench sculptures to Manchester.  The project celebrates the city’s creativity and encourages children and adults to read for enjoyment. Schools across the region are in the process of decorating a BookBench with designs inspired by books, novels, comics, poems and prose. Once decorated, the benches will be displayed in cultural hubs, leisure and shopping centres throughout Manchester. Many of the venues will host activities and events, and families will be able to discover the BookBenches by following a trail.
Look out for the Loreto bench somewhere in the city from July.
