Parent / Carer Evenings

At Loreto we recognise the benefits of working in partnership with parents and carers so that students have the optimum chance of becoming their best selves. We encourage parents and carers to contact the school regularly and to seek information on any aspect concerning their child, including effort, attainment, behaviour or pastoral care.

Each year group holds one parents’ evening per academic year and this is the main opportunity for parents and carers to meet their child’s teachers in all subjects. This means that each family will meet with approximately ten teachers on the night. The teachers are stationed around the school and parents and carers meet on a one to one basis with each subject teacher for their child. In order for the each family to see each teacher we ask that they spend no more than three to five minutes with the teacher.  The process lasts approximately two hours and light refreshments are available. The subject teacher will provide information on your child’s effort, attainment and behaviour and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions. In advance of the meeting parents are sent a list of all the teachers attending the event and parents and carers are asked to work with their child to identify which teachers are specific to them.

Curriculum Information Evenings

Each year Parents and Carers have the opportunity to attend a Curriculum Information Evening for their child. As the curriculum changes every year we hold five Curriculum Evenings per year, one for every year group. This means that if you have two or more children in different years at Loreto then you can attend on two or more occasions. The purpose of the evening is to enable parents to gather information about what their child is being taught at Loreto and to provide parents with suggestions on how to support their child to achieve their best.

The Heads of Department for each of the Core subjects; maths, English, science,  RE and ICT give a short presentation on the syllabus for their particular subject. They discuss how the course is assessed, highlight the homework expectations and they also identify  effective on line resources that may help your child extend their learning at home. In addition parents have the opportunity to ask any questions and to speak to the teachers present about any aspect of their child’s learning. A booklet listing the curriculum for all the subjects taught in that particular year is distributed on the evening to provide parents and carers with a reliable source of reference throughout the year.

The evenings take place in the school Chapel and last approximately 50 minutes and are held in October / November each year.

Year 8 Options

Year 8 is an exciting year for our students as it is their first opportunity to choose what they study. Students have “options” for the equivalent of one day a week, with some opting to start GCSEs or vocational courses early and others opting to spend more time on subjects they enjoy to accelerate their progress.

Our Y8/9 students are supported throughout the options process through assemblies, option booklets and information evenings.

Open Evenings

Our Open Evening has now passed, however we hold Open Mornings at various dates in October, please contact the school to reserve your place.

The transition from Primary school to High school can sometimes seem quite challenging for both parents and students alike. In order to provide families with good information to help them make the best choice for their child we hold two Open Evenings per academic year, one in the Summer term and one in the Autumn term.

The Open evenings are aimed at providing prospective parents with the opportunity  to see and hear about life at Loreto.  Visitors can see the school environment, view the learning resources, listen to the head teacher’s presentation, meet the teachers, talk to current students, join in various activities and sample the delights of school dinners.

In addition, we are always happy to help families with the formal process of applying to high school. Please contact our admissions team for more information.
