The Summer Music Concerts on 27th June were wonderful and joyful celebrations of the musical talents of our students. Such is the success of our music department that in order to accommodate all performers and their families comfortably, we have moved to a two-concert model and this enables all our young musicians the chance to perform proudly!
We heard over 100 students performing their instruments in a wide variety of ensembles including Steel Pans, Folk Band, String Group, Samba Band and Jazz Band. It was inspiring to see so many of our younger students showing so much confidence in our senior ensembles which they only joined at Easter!
We were also treated to a fantastic range of vocal and choral performances, from Show Choir singing extracts from Les Miserables, to close-harmony singers performing Valerie and the amazing school Gospel Choir who never fail to move us.
Highlights of the evening included a fabulous rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody on solo Ukulele by Laurie Freeman, a beautiful and emotional performance of Only Love Can Feel like This by vocalist Holly Bayliss and an award ceremony for our wonderful Year 11s who have participated in music at Loreto for 5 years. They each received a special award and rousing applause! Thank you Year 11 for your commitment and for sharing your talents so willingly over the years.
Finally, the Year 8 band made us so proud by leading us all in a rendition of Don’t Look Back in Anger in honour of all those affected by the Manchester bombing tragedy.
Congratulations to all who performed – you are wonderful ambassadors for our school and for Manchester.
