Year 11 Loreto student Mark Brent had the surprise of his life when one of his favourite United players, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, joined him and other local students at a special leadership and training session held at the AON training complex. As far as the youngsters were aware, they were representing their school at the session and meeting up with some Foundation coaches.
The session started as planned, only for it to be interrupted when Zlatan entered the Academy indoor training arena bearing gifts for all. The presents included hoodies and scarves for the older children; and teddies, stationery sets and gloves for the younger participants. All the children also received a signed shirt, a FIFA 18 video game and a baseball cap; all donated by United’s official club partners Uber, EA Sports and New Era respectively.
As part of the Foundation’s mission to spread festive cheer across Greater Manchester, deserving participants were nominated by their Manchester United Foundation coaches for a Christmas surprise as the Reds’ iconic no.10 delivered gifts and made dreams come true.
Mark could not believe he was at Carrington at the first-team training ground meeting Zlatan,
“It was incredible meeting him, he’s so down to earth. Zlatan said how important school is and told me to keep up the good work and to keep going for what I want to do when I’m older” declared a surprised Mark after his encounter with the celebrity.
